Synopsis

Album Description
The life of Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame member Jim Capaldi was truly punctuated by greatness. One of the best-known percussionists and composers in rock history, Capaldi helped form the seminal band Traffic in 1967 along with Steve Winwood, Dave Mason, and Chris Wood. The band recorded eleven records throughout their storied career, with numerous hits rising onto the U.S. and U.K. charts, including "Mr. Fantasy" and "John Barleycorn Must Die." The immense songwriting talents of Jim were not simply limited to his work in Traffic, however. He won numerous awards for his song-writing skills, including five BMI and ASCAP songwriter awards, and was employed by rock legends The Eagles to pen their comeback single "Love Will Keep Us Alive." On the critically acclaimed Capaldi release, Living On The Outside, Jim further displays his giant talents as he handles the vast majority of the instrumentation. Along with his usual percussive prowess, he also shows his skills on guitar, organ, piano and sequencer. This diverse and unique recording also features performances from several of Jim's legendary friends: Steve Winwood, George Harrison, Paul Weller, Ian Paice and Gary Moore. Jim sadly passed away earlier this year at the age of 60 and although he has left a stunning musical legacy in his wake, he will be sorely and sadly missed.

Some come back...
Bete Noire | Vancouver, Canada | 11/09/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"It's been twelve years since Jim Capaldi's last great studio album,"Some Come Running"(1988).His new work is worth the wait, surprising the listener with a very concise and disciplined rock, and also with some hints at his past work with Traffic. As always, there's a lot of soulfulness in Capaldi's music-he has a certain hopeful and shining vision, emerging in articulate songwriting. This time around those invited to the party include:Gary Moore,Deep Purple's master drummer Ian Paice,Steve Winwood, and George Harrison;the last two were heard on "Some Come Running" as well."
Jim's last new album
Dark Star-The Other One | The Bus To Never Ever Land | 05/28/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This would become Jim Capaldi's last new album(although he does remake a couple of his oldies) and it's one of his best. I always liked Jim better when he shed the synth pop sound and went for a rougher bluesy sound which works quite well here. As usual, for a Jim album, it features many guests including George Harrison in one of his last appearences. The songs are great for the most part and this version even has a bonus video at the end of the disc which the other versions don't. If you like Jim, you'll like this album."
