Jim Greer from West Liberty Logan County Ohio was attracted to country music by his sisters, Bonnie and Valeda, who as the Greer Sisters, sang on several stations in the 50s including the Renfro Valley Barn Dance, on W L W Cincinnati. After learning banjo, guitar and mandolin, he played with them, until Bonnie tired of the traveling and they disbanded.
Greer then formed his Mac O Chee Valley Folks which featured himself on banjo, sister Valeda guitar, Bob McPherson guitar and mandolin, Dalton Burroughs bass, Valeda's husband John Wentz dobro and Aaron Hicks fiddle. Between 1965 and 1969, they also played weekly on Jamboree USA at W W V A Wheeling West Virginia.
Jim Greer and The Mac O Chee Valley Folks recorded three albums for Rural Rhythm Records in the late 60s with Lee Sutton as producer. Stars of the W W V A Jamboree, containing 22 traditional classics, was the second of three albums and was originally released in 1967.
