Jim Rivers Delivers

"NUBREED IS BACK, BABY!

This is one of the most highly anticipated house albums to come out in a while. While Jim Rivers and cemented himself as a producer over the last couple of years by releasing some really astounding tracks, The fact that he was chosen to kick-start the Global Underground Nubreed series back from oblivion is his biggest project yet.

Nubreed was an establishment for many years for those in-the-know with house music. The series focused on up-and-coming talent in the game and it was essential in launching the global careers of Anthony Pappa, Sander Kleinenber, Danny Howells, and Steve Lawler.

Jim Rivers had a tough crowd to go up against, but boy-o-boy does he deliver! This mix is the best of 2009 so far as far as I'm concerned. It's just brilliant. Banging, techie, and melodic.... Rivers doesn't back down an inch. We can only hope that Global Underground will be able to continue to find new talent in the same caliber. Great job, Jim!

Highly Recomended - 10/10"
Decent mix, but not groundbreaking

"I used to love almost all releases from Global Underground, and Nubreed was by far my favorite series. Giving relatively unheard of DJs the chance to compile a mix cd was a brilliant idea back then, as this was a great way for them to prove their worth in the DJ world. Each mix pushed the boundaries of progressive house, with the final release by Satoshi Tomiie being the best of the series. It's been 7 years since Tomiie's Nubreed, and I was ecstatic to hear that GU was bringing the series back. I was familiar with Jim Rivers as a producer, but not as a DJ, but given the past releases I had very high expectations for this release.

All I can say is that I was let down by this release. It's a good progressive mix from start to finish, with some solid grooves and nice melodies, but there is nothing groundbreaking about it at all. While most of the tracks are fresh, I still felt like I was listening to a GU compilation from years ago. GU used to be at the forefront of dance compilation mixes, but now with mixes from unknowns available all over the internet, they are becoming irrelevant.

If you are still a diehard progressive fan, I'd say give this CD a chance. If you are looking for the boundary-pushing days of old from Global Underground, then pass on it."
