"This CD says Original Recordings on the front but, while they may be original recordings based on whatever that means from a legal standpoint, these are not the original hits! I guess that by Original Recordings, they mean that he went back into the studio and recorded them new for this CD, rather than them re-releasing the original hits. A play on words designed to suck you in...And suck me in, it did.



His voice has lost all its range; the songs are slower and lack the character of the original hits. When I listened to My Girl Bill, instead of smiling or laughing as I did years ago listening to it, I couldn't wait for it to be over! Cow Patti was almost as bad, and I Don't Like Spiders and Snakes was so dry and boring to listen to that I skipped past it before the song ended.



It is a shame that his producers, or whomever it is that owns the original rights, chose to remake the songs rather than release the original hits. Perhaps the real originals just don't exist anymore. Too bad.



The bottom line is, if you want to listen to the Jim Stafford you enjoyed in the 70's, don't buy this CD. You'll be disappointed.

The other novelty artist

"Jim Stafford, at times, has a voice similar to that of Hoyt Axton and Jerry Reed. Stafford, more than any of the other novelty/comedy acts, was more quirky than funny. the humor on this CD comes from his home-spun delivery and the only laugh-out-loud song for me is "You Can Call Me Clyde", with it's Roger Miller-type lyric "yeah, i'm standin' here naked with my clothes on and you can call me clyde"; while the others are quietly funny. his big hits, or the ones he's known for, are the first 3 and track 5. while Stafford never gets dead serious, there are three songs on here {7, 8, and 10} that would resemble serious/non-novelty performances. "Turn Loose of My Leg", track 4, is about a wild girl and the dignified and well-mannered guy who reminds her "i'm not that kind of man", which is hilarious because usually it's the WOMAN who uses a similar over-used line like that. "Wildwood Weed" was a Top-10 pop hit...the CD kicks off with my favorite, "Spiders and Snakes", sold a million copies for Stafford and it hit the pop Top-10 in '74. Stafford's commercial success was in 1974-1975 and then nothing charted for him until 1981 with "Cow Patti" {track 5} and then two more singles hit the country charts but by that time he didn't really need a singing career because he was well known on TV on several country music shows plus being a host on an animal program in 1980-1981...he later opened up his own theatre. This CD introduces everyone to Jim Stafford's comedy {with 3 serious songs thrown in} and you can judge for yourself if he's your kind of performer."

"I have searched everywhere for this CD and no one knew anything about this artist, I wish he had more music out there cause I would buy them all. I hope you enjoy him as much as my family has (past & present)."
