Synopsis

Amazon.com essential recording
Buffett sold his promise as a real-world singer-songwriter God knows how many boats ago, but 1977's Changes remains one of his last stands before plunging into a sea of parrotheads, "Fins," and personal empire building. "Margaritaville" was the deceptively lighthearted hit, but Steve Goodman's "Banana Republics" and the title tune also raised an eyebrow at the worlds Buffett encountered in his 100-proof-fueled travels. Yet soon the empire would overtake the wit and ego would subsume his creative reach. --Rickey Wright

CD Reviews

A Classic!
Larry Ashford | 10/31/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought the original album when it came out in the seventies, and also own the CD. In addition to the big concert songs such as "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes" and the National Anthem, "Margaritaville", it has some of his best lesser known tunes, such as "Banana Republics", "Tampico Trauma", Lovely Cruise", and "Miss You So Badly". Many of the classic songs that make all parrotheads listen to those songs again and again. Classic Buffett!"
Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes

"I wore the first one out. This is a replacement. Hey, I'm a parrothead, what can I say. Jimmy can do no wrong."
Needs remastering
Bradley F. Smith | Miami Beach, FL | 02/18/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The sound of this early CD-era work, recorded in the mid-70s, is muffled, dim and hampered by low volume. I'm sure the whole thing could sound 100 percent better with 24-bit remastering. MCA must figure why bother if people keep buying this inferior product? The songs are first-rate."
