"Jimmy Giuffre was the master of chamber jazz, whether it was the folk jazz of his groups with Jim Hall and either a bassist or Bob Brookmeyer on valve trombone. This particular group was with Paul Bley and Steve Swallow. This was an experiment with atonal jazz improvisation and it is one of the few such experiements that really worked. Wonderful group improvisations based on some really nice compositons by Guiffre, Carla Bley and even Paul and Steve. A very good jazz recording and very worthwhile music."
