Long time coming to CD

"Though his recordings were among the earliest to come out of the legendary FAME recording studio in Muscle Shoals, Jimmy Hughes' music only now sees the light of day on legitimate domestic CD. Hughes had varying success on the charts in the mid-60's but is mostly remembered for his initial hit, "Steal Away", a recording with an impact greater than its at-the-time unimpressive showing in the lower reaches of the pop top-20.
This collection of 18 tracks includes the aforementioned "Steal Away" along with other b-sides, album cuts and his three other singles that made their way into the top-100 of the pop charts, if only briefly. Competently done with decent sound quality, albeit all mono, this piece includes an eight-page fold-out liner notes booklet and, as a "bonus" feature, an MP3 with a recording of a gathering of Hughes and other early Muscle Shoals personnel from 2008.
This new package is a welcome addition to the collector's 60's music library, and plugs a long-standing hole in the realm of digital music available from the era.

"At last, it is here. Jimmy Hughes. WOW! This music got me through some rough times when I was going the pangs of early adulthood. Why Not Tonight, Neighbor Neighbor and of course, I Worship The Ground You Walk On. This man could do it. Everybody knows Steal Away. Though Johnnie Taylor might have gone a little further with it, I feel this is the definitive version. I think he changed labels to do, I Like Everything About You. But, that was easier to get. JIMMY HUGHES. WOW!"
