CD ReviewsAs Good As It Gets! Nora McCarthy | New York City | 05/27/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "At first listen, I was pulled in and taken on a journey through classic standards so beautifully and maserfully arranged, the familiar songs seemed mysteriously new. This CD is as romantic as it is swinging, and Ms. Stiles demonstrates her excellence not only as a talented pianist, but as a gifted arranger as well. Featuring an all star cast of musicians, Love Call is enjoyable from beginning to end. It's as good as it gets." I'm Loving Love Call Curt Gowdy | Seattle, WA USA | 06/21/2004 (4 out of 5 stars) "I had never heard of Joan Stiles but since Clark Terry and Frank Wess (two living legends) are on it, I bought the CD. It turns out that she's put together an amazing octet and written some great charts. The arrangements are unusually creative with great solos and ensemble work by Warren Vache, Frank Wess, Jerry Dodgion and Joe Temperley. Clark Terry's bluesy solo on "Creole Love Call" is wonderful and Stiles' piano playing is terrific throughout the recording. I especially like her solo piano versions of Strayhorn's "Blood Count" and "Take the A Train". If you want to hear some fresh interpretations of standards and jazz tunes played by some of the best jazz musicians around, buy this CD!"
