Good, but "Greatest Hits"? Not really!
Shawn Gealow | Lincoln, NE United States | 11/02/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)
"I admit, I like most of Joe Diffie's work. The songs that he put on here are mostly good stuff. Songs such as "So Help Me Girl", "Third Rock From The Sun", "John Deere Green", and the best song, "Ships Don't Come In" are the best in his career, at least on this record. The problem is that there are quite a few certified hits that were not included. Those include "If The Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)", "New Way To Light Up An Old Flame", and "Is It Cold In Here?" which were left off. These songs being left off are quite an injustice to this "Greatest Hits" package. Also, only one of the three new tracks are any good, that being "Texas Size Heartache". The other two new tracks were total throw-aways, being "Hurt Me All The Time" and "Pour Me". They are crap compared to the previously mentioned material. So for "Greatest Hits, Part 2" here's a suggestion. Put all your "Greatest Hits" on it. Second, find better new material instead of crapshoot throw-aways. It diminishes the overall quality of the album. If the producer won't do the extra work, find another producer who will do the record justice. Lazy producers only harm good music. I hate to give this three stars, but for a "Greatest Hits" album, this was really substandard. Better luck next time."
Not Quite All The Greatest Hits

"This collection offers all of later hits with such early gemsas New Way To Light Up An Old Flame, If The Devil Danced In EmptyPockets, and Is It Cold In Here left off. Also, the set is not musically balanced with far too many novelty tunes like Third Rock From The Sun and John Deere Green and not enough ballads. On the plus side, all three of the new tunes are great, including the new single Texas Size Heartache. If you have the early albums, this will fill out your collection nicely."
Good Greatest Hits CD with some great songs

"I've always liked Joe Diffie's music as long as i've been listening to country. I think he's one of the most underrated country singers along with Toby Keith. It has all of his early hits and the 3 new songs are good too. But if you ask me, even if it wasn't a good album, I think any CD that has Ships That Don't Come In and So Help Me Girl are worth getting anytime."
Decent greatest hits

"I love county from the 90s, as once stated in my Clint Black review. Here is anther star who is around but doesnt get much attention. I use to listen to Joe Diffie but know when I look back, he really didnt have alot of good songs. His best song on this cd is Home. There are a few other radio hits on this cd but they do not age well with time."
