"Joe Ely is at his peak on this record. In the 1970's and the 1980's, you couldn't find a more rough-and-tumble country/rock-a-billy singer. HE takes Jerry Lee Lewis and gives it his own spin with wry lyrics about Texan life (I should know, I lived there) and easy beats that allow you to get in touch with your inner boogaloo.
(His current records are irrelevant, as he fancies himself Tex-Mex Ely with drooping numbers about golddigging Spanish senoritas.)
Nashville must have stroked out when they heard this one."
Just rockin' good fun

"This record is as much fun as "roots music" ever gets. It kicks from beginning to end. Joe Ely is finally getting some credit as a journeyman survivor, but this album shows him off as a great bandleader and crackerjack craftsman of smokey, chewey rock-and-roll."
