CD Reviews

An overlooked genius

"You have Joe Pass here playing solo guitar. No fancy engineering to cover up shabby playing. No backup orchestra to mask a blemish in a tune. No cheesy effects that would be considered "innovative" by Rolling Stone. I can almost picture Joe walking into the studio, cranking out a tune, and the sound engineer's jaw dropping. This is as good as it gets. The album's title sounds arrogant until you hear the guitar playing. The chords are lush. The phrasing is impeccable. There are parts on this album that simply leave you short of breath. That's pretty damn good for one man and his guitar.Joe Pass left this world about ten years ago. In that time thick skulled music critics have fawned over Lenny Kravitz, Bob Dylan, and just about every other idiot with a guitar. Would Joe be rolling around in his grave? Probably not. I think he would be winking at us--recognition isn't what it's about, kid."
Joe Pass will blow your mind.

"This was the first Joe Pass CD I ever bought, and it blew me away. Because Mr.Pass plays solo on this album, he avoids the noodling that ruins alot of jazz guitar albums(Not any of his though). Even people who don't play guitar will love this album. Pass also wrote all the tunes on it, and they are amazing. He is a great songwriter, as well as a great guitar player."
What a class.....
