CD ReviewsIncredible solo effort Laura M. Maurer | Fargo, ND United States | 01/14/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Joey's work away from Europe has showed maturity and growth in his art. I loved the heavier, guitar music in the 80's but his new style with more acoustic and no screaming guitar riff's is refreshing and completely enjoyable to listen to. "Lucky" is perhaps one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, the best on a CD of what should be hits. It's nice that he has grown with his fans and is not trying to do the same old worn out music. No music collection is complete without this CD and his first "A Place to Call Home"." My real review Vadim Diaconescu | Dracula's Castle | 06/15/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "Maybe this CD will not be remembered in 20 years, but it is still solid and I think Tempest will surprise us further with very good music. I choosed to buy and after that to review this album, because the previous review appearing under my signature is not mine. While I was in Germany in holliday, some wise guy at my office fooled around with my name and sent to you a false review. So please be so kind and delete it immediately." Keep on changin' Alejandro C. Mairano | Montevideo, Uruguay | 04/10/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "Not too much left since the last Europe's release (Prisoners...). Mr. Tempest solo career has turned into a totally different kind of music, which doesn't means that its quality has ever gone down. Not at all.
His first solo album "A place to call home" shows us the clue in terms of the music Joey wanted to lead. It's a great album. But this Azalea... definitely takes us to a different space. For us, who are Europe fans, it becomes a dellusion at first. But when you listen to it, you really pay attention to it, then is when you realize how a singer can improve his voice at a level unknown. Quiet music, no guitar heros around, kinda folk irish influenced (so he says). Highly recommended. Read the lyrics: they get really high standards (especially "Lucky", "Dance for you" and "The one in the glass"). I repeat: it's not Europe so far. And...to those who expect they're back soon...it will happen Till then." |
