"This collection of John Denver's best songs are a rare treat, in that this is the only collection that is presented in SACD Multi-channel surround sound. The 2000 "John Denver Live" was also SACD, but only played in stereo. Just released this year after being remixed in four channel (not full 5.1 surround sound; just front left and right and rear left and right - plus subwoofer), it is John Denver at his best. The only channel missing is the front center, but that is a minor quibble.



Also, unlike the 2000 `live' album, these recordings are `live in the studio', meaning all the original instruments are included and the backup vocals are indeed, John Denver tracked back over his main vocals. The songs start and finish in full, with no fade outs. These are not the studio recordings that you will find on all his previous albums, but a unique recording of John Denver, band and orchestral accompaniment in the studio. I wish more artists recorded this way, bringing a new and updated feel to their songs while maintaining the full sound and total instrumentation of the originals.



If you don't have SACD playing capability, this recording is still unique and playable on regular stereo. However, if you indulge yourself (and you should) in a surround sound system, you'll hear John Denver like he was in your living room. The music, sound, feeling and vibrations are all here, just as if you were sitting in the recording studio.
