"As a life long JD fan I would have to rate this album as one of my top 3 favourites along with I WANT TO LIVE and WINDSONG. There just isn't one track that isn't a classic from the uplifting title track to the superb WHISPERING JESSE and if there is a better love song around than FOR YOU, I've yet to hear it. Any JD fans out there thinking of getting this one I would simply say BUY BUY BUY"
A thoughtful, insightful John Denver

"This is an overlooked but very worthwhile album, even if it only included its two beautiful love songs ("Never a Doubt" and "For You"), a song of a soul yearning to do and be more ("Higher Ground"), and a playful song of simple, homespun delights ("Homegrown Tomatoes"). But "Falling Leaves" borders on being a masterpiece. It is a haunting song about refugees that asks "Are they not some dear mother's child? Are they not you and I? Are we the ones to bear this shame? And they the sacrifice?" Denver's socially conscious and responsible poetry belies his image of a simple country boy."
One of John's BEST!

"People who have not heard the "Higher Ground" album are missing some of the best of JD's music. All but one of the 12 cuts are written by John. This was the first album produced after John left the RCA label. There's the fun of "Homegrown Tomatoes", the word pictures of "Whispering Jesse" and the new wedding classic "For You". Another song on the album, "A Country Girl in Paris" is one tune that only avid John Denver fans know and love. The rest of the music world are at a loss for not having discovered this album."
A Great CD

"This is a great CD! All the songs are really pretty and well written. There is "Sing Australia" and "Alaska and Me", which are both easy to memorize so you can sing with John whenever you want to. "Homegrown Tomatoes" is also a fun song. Definitely worth your money!"

"Post RCA, poorly promoted and distributed and ... this might be John's best written and sung collection of songs. Other reviewers have said it well. Whether love song (For You) or message song (Falling Leaves) or fun song (Home Grown Tomatoes), this is a mostly unknown gem."
