"This is a career-spanning project which includes versions of songs re-recorded later in John Denver's life, such that a more unified sense of an album results than is found in a typical collection of songs recorded at different times with a range of supporting musicians, studios and producers involved. In this regard "Purely JD" is something like his "Earth Songs," though the latter is more dramatically orchestrated.



"Purely JD" is drawn from a three-CD import set titled "Greatest Hits." Those choosing the one- or two-disc "Purely JD" versions now may subsequently want to pick up the three-CD set's lovely Foxfire Suite, Sing Australia, Stonehaven Sunset, and other rarer gems of John's career. Those seeking the studio versions of the songs most often heard on the radio will need to turn instead to the one-CD "Greatest Hits."
