Synopsis

Album Description
For the first time ever on CD, Raven brings together two landmark albums by veteran blues master JOHN HAMMOND - Source Point (1971) and I'm Satisfied (1972). Originally recorded for Columbia, these two albums are the missing links in a career charted by a series of popular recordings for Vanguard and Atlantic. Hammond began his career on the New York coffeehouse scene at the beginning of the first blues renaissance of the early ?60s, and these albums confirm his status as one of the finest interpreters of Chicago blues. These recordings show Hammond as a more than capable band leader playing electric as well as acoustic guitar on some of the best Chicago style electric blues ever recorded. Source Point drives bitterly hard and unforgiving with Hammond tackling blues standards by Little Walter (?Tell Me Mama'), Muddy Waters (?She Moves Me'), Slim Harpo (?I Got Love If You Want It'), Howlin' Wolf (?No Place to Go') and Willie Dixon (?Mellow Down Easy'). I'm Satisfied forges a more pensive and measured atmosphere with songs by the record's producer Delaney Bramlett (?I'm Satisfied', ?I'm Gonna Leave'), Robert Johnson (?From Four Until Late') and Blind Willie McTell (?Mama ?Tain't Long Fo' Day'). ?Last Night' and ?Rock Me Baby', the two bonus tracks from Triumvirate - Dr. John, Mike Bloomfield and Hammond - highlight the distinguished company he played with, the fine articulation of his voice and superlative blues guitar licks.

FINALLY!!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I had been waiting for years to up-date my album of "I'm Satisfied" to CD-Format. Finally they brought it out and I am delighted! Well you certainly can't beat the fact that they paired it with "Source Point", which is very good as well; but the creme de la creme is "I'm Satisfied".

It is John at his electric best, the songs are all superb choices, his voice is at it's best, and the sound production is great. I have 8 of his Albums/CDs and this along with "City Boy Blues" are among my desert Island pics. Grab it up, you won't be sorry!
