Best John Mulaney Comedy Album Ever
Andrea L. Heyart | Denton, TX USA | 08/27/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"After having watched Jonhn Mulaney on VH1 for a few years, I knew I liked the cut of his gib. When I saw his album available on Vine, I was totally stoked. After listening and laughing along with the album I'm happy to say that I wasn't dissappointed. Ironic, sardonic, and other "-ic"y adjectives easily describe his quick wit. It's easy to lump any comic under the age of 40 into the "alternative comedy" genre, though I can't say there is anything "alternative" about him. I've never been exactly sure what people really mean when they use the term alternative comedy. It seems to me that most of todays comics would fit into that category and therefore negate the name. But I digress.

Listen to the entire album, enjoy it and wait for the track labeled "Salt and Pepper Diner", trust me."
Great comedy, plus the greatest prank story ever!

"When I selected this CD from Amazon Vine, I gotta admit, I didn't know who John Mulaney was. I just said, "Ooh, comedy CD!" Well, I finally got around to listening to the CD in question, and after just a few minutes, I recognized the routine from catching him on Comedy Central some time not so long ago. I remembered the jokes, because frankly, they were hilarious! As expected, John talks about personal history, experiences, and observations, and the subjects are all over the map, from drag queens to Law and Order, to Scarface and the Old Testament. A couple of the jokes are meant to be seen, unfortunately, like the great bit about the guy on Law and Order who won't stop unloading crates while being questioned by the cops (really funny when John acts it out), but this CD will have you laughing out loud pretty steadily regardless. John gives you a real and honest "regular guy" perspective on everyday weirdness we can all relate to. Love the story about the lady who thought he was chasing her! Of course, the most unforgettable part of John's routine is his big finish, "Salt and Pepper Diner", the tale of the best meal he ever had. It's not what you think. It's actually the story of one of the greatest pranks ever pulled, with the help of Tom Jones' "What's New, Pussycat?". Definitely one of the funniest standup routines I've heard in a while.

"I had never heard of John Mulaney before ordering this cd from the Vine program, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect.

My husband says I'm a prude -- but even with the many f-bombs throughout Mulaney's routine, I laughed so hard I cried. His voice sounds a bit like Jerry Seinfeld's (the whiny voice that Seinfeld made so famous), but the similarity ends there. I like John Mulaney's irreverent, "definitely NOT politically correct" humor much better (and I like Seinfeld). And my hubby who thinks I'm a prude? He loved Mulaney's humor even more than I did. If you can get past the adult content and language, you'll enjoy this CD -- and if you've always enjoyed adult themes and language, you'll love this CD. When I come across more of Mulaney's work, I'll definitely get it."
