"With a personnel line up of M.Brecker, J.Scofield, Pete Erskine, Vinnie Colaiuta amongst other luminaries, this has got to be worth a listen. Twelve tracks on this album feature some really well constructed nice piano, soprano sax, drum-breaks (awesome Vinnie)and of course some peachy basswork. The music credits don't include Chick Corea which surprised me because there is his sound about some of the stuff here - I think the influence of the Elektric Band still existed with Patituci in 1990 (a good thing!). The musical range is pretty wide, so there should be something for most tastes for sure. From outright Jazz and Fusion, funk, to Brazilian influence. Most of the tracks seem to develop gently and build to some really exciting conclusions. Its a GRP recording & production, with GRP musicians - so you can be guareented that your HIFI won't get to sound any better than this. Don't miss his two earlier releases, 'On the corner' and 'John Patitucci'. Maybe these are even better?"

"14 years after its release, this STILL provides very stimulating listening for me.



John Patitucci amply demonstrates that there's more to him than just great bass chops, but that there's a serious composer/arranger at work as well, one who's not afraid to experiment and try new things that will challenge himself and his listeners.



Any fan of high-quality instrumental music can find something to like here, there's great burning fusion ("Spaceships" and "Scophile" featuring a feisty John Scofield), beautiful ethereal pieces like "Through The Clouds", Two Worlds" and "From A Rainy Night", a burning post-bop workout in "Trane", a plaintive Gospel/R&B inflected melodic piece like "They Heard It Twice (one of my favorite tracks, again featuring John Scofield letting forth fiery phrases and ideas) and lots more. The only track that didn't work for me was "Junk Man", a rather cheesy techno-number that sounded like a bad remake of the "Ghostbusters" theme.



Definitely a very stimulating and FUN release all told.

"He was definitely one of my favorite people I heard of from the GRP label of Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen who founded the label back in the late 1970s. I adore him since he been out. I seen him on most projects with the Chick Corea Electric Band, Dave Grusin, Wayne Shorter, The Chick Corea Akoustic Band, Hubert Laws, just to name a few. He sure is one-of-a-kind legend to all bassists and mostly most jazz players. I still have this on tape but 1 of those days I'll have it on CD. This is sure is a good album and I luv to hear more albums from him."
