"This wonderful retrospective album is a listening delight. Folk icon/singer/songwriter John Stewart has taken a sweeping overview of his career and covered the songs with style, character and fresh new sound. The result, in my opinion, is an album of memorable songs that portray a wide range of sentiments, opinions and musical styles. In my opinion, this is an album for folks who admire the venerable John Stewart and find value in his thoughts, words and music. Best Song on Album: "The Shadows of the Angels Wings." A must-have album for the collection!"

"John Stewart, America's greatest living songwriter, has been so prolific that it is nearly impossible to collect all of his recordings. For the newly interested purchaser, two samplers will make for a nice introduction. The Phoenix Concerts was released in the mid-1970's and showcases the country-flavored folk-rock style he excelled at. Airdream Believer is a recent release of material that spans his career, all recorded anew. Although some of the songs pale in comparison with the original versions (e.g., "Gold," originally on Bombs Away Dreambabies, and "Reverend Mr. Black," originally on the Kingston Trio's Album #17), others are delightful reworkings of familiar favorites (e.g., "Lost Her in the Sun" and "Daydream Believer"). If nothing else, this collection is worthwhile for a rockabilly rendition of "Get Rythym" (a duet with the late, great Johnny Cash) and an etherial "Shadows of the Angels' Wings." All in all, not his best recording, but very good."

"You mean Al Stewart? Rod Stewart?... Well, no, besides these famous Stewart there is shinning carreer by a man named John Stewart, who has released 40 records. This one is a rendition and rerecording of many of his best songs and it works very well, then you'll want many of his other cd's, I am sure. A great songwriter, one of the treasures of American music in the last 50 years."

"I'm sorry, I disagree that this is a good place to start with John Stewart. I don't think any of the remakes here improve on the originals. IMO, you'd be much better off with any of the double-album compilations out there, which are all 5 stars in my book. This album is worth it, though, if only for Shadows of the Angels Wings (with Nanci Griffith). And for God's sake pick up a copy of Wires From the Bunker, John's brilliant "lost" album."
