CD Reviews

Great Music
David Zarate | Waukesha, WI United States | 12/05/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The music here is very simple and straightforward. The artist manages to capture the pioneer spirit of America in a way that reveals its purity and promise. I particularly liked the "Gold Rush" track (I wish I could play it on guitar,) but the whole album is great listening. Haunting and atomospheric, I highly recommend it. Thank you John."
An American Master
S. M.Silver | Coatesville, PA USA | 05/25/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Most people know John Stewart through his work in the folk era (Cumberland Three and the Kingston Trio) and his solo career. A surprisingly under-recognized singer-songwriter (Gold, Runaway Train, Daydream Believer, etc., etc.), Stewart also is one of the finest guitar and banjo players around (Lindsay Buckingham, who knows a few things about the guitar, regards him as extraordinary) as well as a very talented arranger. Despite dozens of albums, Stewart seldom has released purely instrumental work until this album. Whether or not you know him and are just a fan of superb finger-work, listen to this album. You'll be very glad you did. And then listen to his singing albums."
Amazing
John Zimmerman | 02/05/2006

"I cannot recommend an album more than this one. Totally different than anything else John has done, this is a unique masterpiece. Heartfelt lovely multi-themes are side one, each playing on the other with great segues. On side 2 what I call John's Balero on a hypnotic building piece and then a kick-ass set of guitar and banjo picking. One of my all-time favorites."
