CD ReviewsJohn's Second Album snowleopard | Oregon | 04/28/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "John recorded this CD several years ago, and contains a great mix of original cuts, some re-recorded cuts from his CBS years scoring the Tour de France, and a very nice song (vocal).
The tracks Garden City, Elektrik Thom, Waltz for Julie are all in the vein most would probable be with John's music, though this is perhaps a little more electronic. The songs are very good, and have a great sound. Shock, Bastille Day (and the Reprise), The Black Hole, and Destination Paris are all re-recordings from John's early CBS cuts (long ago unavailable). Bastille Day is probably the softest of the three, while the others have more muscle than what most of John's fans may expect from him. Destination Paris is a personal favorite of this author, and brings back awesome memories from the early years of European cycling shown on American TV for the first time back in the 1980s. The song is You Break it, and is a wonderful vocal ballad (not sung by John himself) and would have fit in perfectly with a lot of radio back in the 1990's had it gotten more airplay. Actually, this entire album is so wonderful, it's a shame it wasn't until later that John got recognized for his musicianship, which really started to bloom on this CD." |
