"New Orleans is a music gold mine with hidden treasures. Everyone knows Fats Domino, Al Hirt, etc. But a deeper dig reveals the jewels of Allen Tousaint, Mac Rebennac (Dr. John) and the glory story of obscure but fine diamond cut 45s by artists like Johnny Adams. Johnny had some minor success with local attempts,i.e. the sublime, "Losing Battle", but moved on to Nashville, hit with "Release Me" even before Englebert Humperdink/Ester Phillips made it a classic."Reconsider Me", another Country/Western/Blues amalgam was Johnny's biggest chart hit. Next, at Memphis, at Shelby Singleton's SSS (Singleton had purchased SUN Records by this time), and Johnny recorded what is probably his best hit,"I Won't Cry".
This CD has most of Johnny's grooves, moves, and schmooze. The recording is above standard sound, and the accompaning booklet is informative.
I suggest a dim lit night and the wink that deserves this aching light."
