CD ReviewsThe world missed out on Johnny Bravo ifutureman | NJ | 09/01/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "mid-90's NYC - the Lancourt brothers (twins) on guitar/vocals and bass/vocals, with the drummer Matt Fass formed this trio with a sound that blended Nirvana, Weezer, and even some Beatles for good measure. It's no coincidence that Ric Oceseck (however you spell his name) produced this album.
I don't know why this band didn't take off, although I think the choice of "Used to Be Cool" as the single was ill-advised. It's not a bad song, but there are much better tunes on here. Also, I heard from a friend of the Lancourts that there was some sort of falling out with their drummer, and also Ansley Lancourt is supposedly a very strange cat who is next to impossible to work with... who knows? It's a real shame they were only around for one album, and of the course the danger of being on a major label is that if you don't sell, you go out of print. There are probably thousands of used or promo copies of this album in bargain bins all over the country, and if you see one PICK IT UP!!!! listen to track 1, "Grew Up in the 80's" (brilliant chorus: "Don't want no freaks around, 'cause Reagan Town is a merry old town"), then skip to the best song on the album: "Perfect Age," and ask yourself - wouldn't most Weezer fans be into this? yes, there are a couple of clunkers out of the 12 (actually 13, there's a hidden song after "Sons and Daughters" and it's very pretty), but there are a bunch of really solid tracks here. This album and this band should have gotten some attention." |
