"What a voice, what romantic, emotional phrasing of such absolutely gorgeous songs. You could be right there in a smokey lounge in a small nightclub listening to him. His ability to articulate the lyrics so you can hear every word, without losing an iota of emotion, is wonderful. The songs are all American standards from the likes of Styne, Cahn, Porter, Kern--in short, absolutely brilliant songwriters. I bought this here at Amazon at the price shown and what a steal that was! I like this almost as much as his album with Coltrane and since that one is considered the best album ever recorded, that is saying a lot. Was every brilliant recording artist who ever lived around in the 1950s? It sure seems like it. This was recorded in 1956. If I stopped my record collection at the end of the 1950s, the collection would be surprisingly superb and filled with absolute classics. Romantics, take Hartman to your hearts!"
