CD Reviews

What a voice!
12/13/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"It's a shame Johnny Logan isn't better known in the United States. He's well-known throughout Europe for winning the Eurovision Song Contest three times, a rare feat. He's got an intense, passionate singing style, and can perform anything, from ballads to R&B. "Love Is All" is very Europop influenced, with production chores handled by Jack White (Laura Branigan, etc.) It features a strong selection of songs, including "To Love You More" (the Celine Dion hit), "Whenever You Close Your Eyes" (a Michael Bolton composition) and, best of all, a burning R&B number, "Higher Than Heaven." Less successful is an update of Paul McCartney's "Silly Love Songs," which turns the lightweight song into an even more lightweight dance song. Logan sings with such forcefulness, banal material like this sounds even worse for the wear. Same thing goes for his update of Branigan's "The Lucky One," in which his vocal exhortations almost border on Tom Jones. Better is a lovely remake of "What's Another Year," a song for which he won the Eurovision contest in 1980. The song sounds as good as it did then. Despite some occasional duds, this disc is definitely worth taking a chance on."
Gets better and better

"Every time I buy a new recording of Johnny Logan, his music and variety of songs get better and better. I recommend this for any one looking for a new singer if you want to get away from the hard rock and the recording artists everybody listens to."
What a talent

"This is one of Johnny Logan's best CD's so far.
If you have had enough of the Rock & Rap CD's which fill the market at the moment and just love some good old fashion ballad CD - this one would be a wonderful choice"
