CD Reviews

Crested peaks/a Maestro
Robert S. Estes | Santa Rosa, Ca | 04/22/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Johnny Maestro and the Crests were late '50's/early '60's New York style Doo-Wop. They were not the classic hard-core street corner harmony , more POP than stop!, shoot! at the bad boys!

These boys were more like Dion/Belmonts/Four Freshmen/ nice guys!

Had bunches of hits, classics "16 Candles", that wore thin before the next year let alone the next generation. This CD has latter day scraping bottom hits like, "Six Nights A Week" "Angels Listened In" and perfunctory covers of hits, "Earth Angel" My Special Angel".

The best part is the stereo versions of early '60's hits, "Step by Step", "Isn't It Amazing". Early stereo of "Molly Mae","6 Nights a Week", sound nicely Hi-Fi on a green plush couch with cocktails on a kidney shaped coffee table.

Johnny Maestro went on to form Brooklyn Bridge, a late '60's vocal/Pop/rock band that had the classic hit, " Worse That Could Happen"

A great legacy!
