Johnny Mathis is known -- and loved -- for his clear, warm, even soothing voice, set often within lush studio arrangements, rich with a full orchestral string section. This record is something of a purist's dream, kind of a stripped-down "Unplugged" record -- if we can think of all that luscious studio-arrangement magic as being something to lay aside in favor of spare, spacious settings to showcase that beautiful, laconic voice. The "Two Guitars" in the title refer to his only accompaniment here: Voice+two skillfully-played jazz guitars, and the result is an intimate, gentle recording.

"Although this is a very old album< I first purchased in America in vinal in the 60's, it is fantastic, I lost my first edition and on a visit to America in the 90's tried very hard to get another copy, but could not find it. It great that it is now available in cd form and should be in every Johnny Mathis fans collection, It is him at his best."
