The Johnny Nash who began his recording career in 1957 is almost a different singer from the Johnny Nash who enjoyed a succession of hits in the '70s. When discovered by Arthur Godfrey and appearing on a number of television broadcasts, it was as a popular music singer; indeed when his recording career was launched it was as a rival to Johnny Mathis. This album was recorded during that first phase. It contains a number of standards, done in the same style Mathis had almost made his own. Whilst not a major success in terms of sales, it does prove that Johnny Nash possessed an exceptional voice and, with the right material, could be an international star. 12 tracks. Hallmark. 2009.
