CD ReviewsAn underappreciated gem, a classic L. Terrero | new jersey | 03/21/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "These are classic mambos as interpreted by El Maestro, Johnny Pacheco. Yes, there are styles such as son, charanga, cha cha cha, but to truly appreciate Afro Cuban music one must also give the mambo its due. Pacheco adds masterful arrangements and this collection of classic mambos is unique in that it is in STEREO, unlike others that are unfortunately in mono because they were recorded in the 1940s and 1950s. Among my favorites from this CD are El Bodeguero and Patricia - pure danceable HEAT!!
Negatives: no credit is given to the supporting musicians. No liner notes, as each mambo surely has a historic value in the chronicles of nuestra musica. " |
