"Johnny Thunder - born Gil Hamilton in Leesburg, Florids in 1941 - was a R&B singer who took the traditionsl children's song, Looby Loo, and turned it into the smash # 4 Billboard Hot 100/# 6 R&B hit Loop De Loop early in 1963 for the Diamond label, b/w Don't Be Ashamed.
It would, however, be a long three years before he returned to the charts, still with Diamond, to take Everybody Do The Sloopy to # 67 Hot 100 in December 1965 b/w Beautiful.
Both sides of those two hit are here but, with Collectables being Collectables, they decided to omit his only other charter, a 1967 duet with Ruby Winters which, still with Diamond, resurrected the old Jo Stafford 1954 hit, Make Love To Me, and brought it to # 13 R&B and # 96 Hot 100 in April b/w another oldie, Teach Me Tonight.
Tell us, Collectables, are you planning a volume 2?"
Good album, good songs, not the best quality

"The Diamond Records master tapes have been missing for decades, so it is no surprise that all recordings on this cd are vinyl dubs. The first 12 tracks comprise of the original Loop De Loop album, with all tracks in true stereo. Tracks 13 and 14 are lesser charting singles that Johnny put out after his one major hit and the album it was titled after. If you have a friend with a mint copy of this album, you're better off dubbing the song from there since these songs sound heavily noise reduced and not from mint vinyl sources. The cd also should've had more bonus cuts on it too, but you take what you can get....it would've been nice if they had included Johnny's hit duet with Ruby Winters called Make Love To Me but it is not here. If Collectables found a better source to copy from, and reissued this cd with maybe a few more bonus tracks, it would be worth getting, but for now, avoid this cd unless you are a completist who has seen Johnny live and loves his music."
