"Having been dumped by unappreciateive major label Sire, Jolene have self-released this, their third album. I bought my copy from their drummer out of the band's suitcase after their wonderful set at the Borderline last month.Antic Ocean consists of 14 genuinely original, beautiful songs, imaginatively arranged. All 3 Jolene albums have their own distinct sound and are chock full of high quality material but this takes them up to a new level. In an earlier era, they would have been feted as one of the best American bands and would have been fending off lucrative offers from the major labels. As it is, their existence and their wonderful music is one of the best kept secrets in music.It would be impossible for them to keep improving at this rate. The few who appreciate them can only hope they don't become despondent at their lack of recognition and go on to amass a body of work of the same calibre over the next few years."

"This is another amazing record from an amazing band. Jolene capture an awesome feeling when you listen to this album because there is so much to discover ,when you first listen and when you read what some of the tracks are about.....a classic. John's voice is as mature as ever and the rest of the band purvey a distinctive musical input that only Jolene can do so well. Well....whaddya waiting for....GO BUY THE CD!"

"This cd falls somewhere between its predecessors "Hell's Half Acre" and "In the Gloaming." It has some of the lushness of the latter and some of the harder edge of the former. This is one that will require repeated listenings to fully appreciate, I believe, but it will be worth the time. While maybe not the classic "Hell's Half Acre" is, it is a worthy companion. A great band live."
