Truly Awful Sound Quality

"I had heard the Japanese version of Animation offered significantly better sound quality than the notorious version released in the UK and the US. I had heard wrong.
Considering how long people waited for Animation to come out on CD, it's disappointing that fan patience was rewarded with such abysmal sound quality. The CD sounds rather like it might if someone played you the original vinyl disc over the phone. The sound quality is muddy and breaks up at certain points in every song; the audio quality hits rock bottom on the choral parts of "All Gods Children." I went back to my almost quarter-century-old vinyl disc, and played it on a hardly-ever-used far-below-audiophile turntable, and the vinyl disc, sounds much better than this CD.
I've seen third-hand reports on the net that a better version, from the original tapes, is coming, but nothing concrete or official. Still, I suggest avoiding this version of the CD and waiting for another, even if you've been waiting decades to hear songs like "Olympia" and "Boundaries" at CD-quality.
Before buying this disc, I read warnings from fans disappointed by the sound quality, but I dismissed these as audiophile nitpicking. But having heard the disc, I'm certain even the least discerning listeners will be appalled."
