CD ReviewsCeltic story by jon mark elkrivers | Anacortes, Washington | 07/04/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "relaxing, calming, perfect for background music" A beautiful story to listen to over and over again. Distant Voyageur | Io | 03/01/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Jon Mark's "Celtic Story" marked the transition between the brighter mood of "Alhambra" and "Land of Merlin" and returns us to the dark-gray atmospherics that dominated his stunner "Standing Stones of Callanish" and also transitions us between the old and that of his apex "Sunday In Autumn". The album overall reminds me heavily of the snowy nights in Wisconsin which I traveled to during a trip when I first bought this CD. The album overall is very much like "Sunday in Autumn" with it's dark and romantic atmospherics.
The opening track "First Light" is a very relaxing song with a moving atmosphere and uplifting evening melody that is perfect for snowy evenings. The ambience ends for a moment and merges into the sounds of waves on the shoreline and then the flute-sounds of "Lands of Merlin" styles emerge with a slightly brighter atmosphere but no less enchanting in mood. "Mayday Morning" has a lot of the haunting atmospherics that defined that of "Remembering", the final track from "Standing Stones". "So Fair A Land" is among my favorite tracks on this album and has a gorgeous and romantic sunny afternoon mood like that of biking along a hidden trail in the Hills of Ireland on a hazy cool afternoon.
