Having gone a decade or two (or more) without this album in my collection, I had forgotten how much I like it.
How do you characterize "Court and Spark" by genre? "Help Me" was a pop /soft rock hit. "Raised on Robbery" is rock 'n roll. But "Twisted" is purely jazz, a vocal tour de force. Joni Mitchell's transitions from folk to folk/rock/jazz are on display in this album, and every track is a jewel in its own way. The lyrics evoke lost love, found love, bad love, but ultimately a belief in love: introspective, and sometimes cynical, but not depressing.
"Court and Spark" is artistic, and accessible. And it's just plain fun to listen to.
