Synopsis

Album Description
Rock-hard, blues-driven psychedelia from Austin, Texas, led by singer Pete Bailey and guitarist Dave Mitchell. Opening for bands like Grand Funk Railroad, they soon released "Dead Man", their 1969 debut originally released on Hookah and also considered to be their best (and therefore a must for fans of early `70s underground psych rock)! This Akarma reissue features 4 bonus tracks, three of which originally appeared on a demo version of the album, and a 26-min. live version of "Dead Man."

CD Reviews

Akarma makes a great album even better

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Italy's Akarma label has re-released Josefus' first album, this time fleshing the original out with 3 tracks from the projected "Get Off My Case" album which was skuttled and the band re-recorded the tracks with some track variation resulting in the "Dead Man" album, one of the finest examples of Texas psych rock, on the same level as Texas legends like Fever Tree. The album is filled with wonderful guitar work from lead guitarist Dave Mitchell and the wailing vocals of Pete Bailey. This set also includes an overpowering 26 minute live version of "Dead Man" replete with wonderful solos by Mitchell. The original album is legendary among psych rock fans and Akarma has certainly upped the ante by adding bonus tracks to this treasured album. If you aren't familiar with Josefus buy this album. If you are you'll already know what a thrill your ears are in for and what a bargain this Akarma release is. In other words, buy this disc and sit back and prepare yourself to travel back in time to Texas circa 1970 and treated to some of Texas' finest."
