Stone Soul Import

"Joss Stone was ready to record an album that would have put her on the same path as other teenage singers like Britney Spears. Instead she heard and fell in love with classic American soul music by the likes of Betty Wright. Soul Sessions is the fruit of that love and it is a remarkable vocal showcase. Her inspiration, Betty Wright, ends up producing seven of the tracks. The songs are mostly little known soul nuggets. Ms Stone is still young and a bit raw, but she shows a lot power with her voice. She can be rough and hard on a song like "Victim Of A Foolish Heart" but then lace it with a bit a sugar to balance it out. Soul legends, guitarist Little Beaver and pianist Latimore add some down and gritty work. Little Beaver's playing on the fabulous "The Chokin' Kind" is a reckless, soulful force. His funky riffs interact with Latimore's slinky piano perfectly to set up a growling vocal from Ms. Stone on "Dirty Man". ?uestlove from the Roots provides the album's best production on a funky reworking of The White Stripes' "Fell In Love With A Girl". Ms. Stone's version, with the title changed to reflect the singer's gender, takes the song from a guitar-drums rock song into a funk-soul burner. The song becomes Ms. Stone's and she's on fire throughout the track. The album closes on a soft and beautiful note with the heartbreaking "For The Love Of You". Ms. Stone has show on her first album that she can come up with the goods to emulate her favorite singers on cover songs, but work them in a way to make them her own. This Japanese import version contains one extra track, "The Player" which is another excellent burner of cover of The First Choice."
I was blown away!!

"Wow!! Talk about talent! I recently became away of Joss Stone when I was channel surfing and came across divas in Vegas. There was Joss Stone with the wonderful talents of Jessica Simpson, Cyndi Lauper, and others (sorry, can't remember them all). Anyway, I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. Joss Stone is not only a wonderful talent with a gorgeous and soulful voice, but her charisma is out of this world!"
