CD ReviewsFoot on the Accelerator Lee Armstrong | Winterville, NC United States | 08/15/2007 (5 out of 5 stars) "Joy Lynn White's "On Her Own" are demos from 1997-2001. She is in incredible form on this CD. "My Heart Breaks" perched on top of my personal top ten for a number of weeks. "Iris Loves Elmer" is an obvious reference to singer Iris DeMent whose boyfriend was named Elmer, "She stayed up waiting till a quarter past three; He was out trying to cop what he really don't need, He looked high & low but all he could find... He was a desperate man in a desperate time." "Love Sometimes" bears a sketchy demo arrangement here, but Lynn's voice bursts with conviction, "I don't always know what love is, but I know love is fine." "Girls With Apartments in Nashville" traces the hard trek to singing success, apparently the sound of experience, "They drive beat up old cars with their guitar in the back seat; They have their dreams." The title track is a country weeper with White's voice floating into the emotional stratosphere, "Foot on the accelerator, go where the road will take her; she's got time." "One More Time" was written with Amy Rigby and has White's hallmark alto milking the lyric for every ounce of feeling, "And I know it's just a weakness that is deep inside of me; I've made so many wrong choices with the cards that were dealt to me." Joy Lynn White is an incredible singer. It is amazing that she is not the hottest singer in Nashville because she certainly is one of the very best. Don't miss this rather rare release. Bravo!"
