CD Reviews
Retracting one star review - would make it a FIVE!

"Yes, I was the first to review this CD. And I was upset. Gave it one star because of the two missing tracks. But time has passed, and I read the other reviews that said that the problem had been corrected. (Though I did not get any response from the distributors when I contacted them.) So I re-ordered the CD. And, yes, it IS the COMPLETE Joy of Cooking!
Sorry that I can't seem to change the one star to five on Amazon!
There is no sound quite like Joy of Cooking (unless you get Terry Garthwaite's solo CDs, available from her website). The country/rock harmonies. Terry and Toni get it together, with fine support from the rest of the group. From mellow to rockin'. Truly great. Truly fine.
All the songs are great. If I can pick favorites, though, they would be "Brownsville/Mockingbird," "Red Wine at Noon," "Pilot" (wherein Terry channels Janis Joplin), and "Closer to the Ground."
Yes, get this CD. You'll not regret it.
I am so glad to have all of Joy of Cooking on one collection.
(original review below)
I love Joy of Cooking, and was thrilled to see a "complete" CD. However, the copy I received is not "complete." Tracks 2 & 3 on CD #2, which are supposed to be "Pilot" and "The War You Left Behind" are duplicates of tracks 12 & 13 ("Blues for a Friend" and "New Colorado Blues") on CD #1. "Pilot" and "The War You Left Behind" are not on either CD.
I e-mailed the distribution company (in England) but received no reply.
When I brought it to Amazon's attention, I was instructed to return the item for a refund, which I have done.
It's too bad that this isn't really a complete Joy of Cooking. Had it been complete, I would have rated this five stars."
Great Group from the Seventies

"I wanted to let everyone know that the problem with the repeated songs was corrected - my CD was perfect. Joy of Cooking has a great synthesis of rock, country, blues and jazz with two very different female vocalists. There are so many wonderful songs here that you'll want to get this collection of all three albums. I particularly liked "Hush", "Did You Go Downtown", "Blues for a Friend", "Laugh, Don't Laugh", "Brownsville/Mockingbird", "Castles", etc. They were truly ahead of their time."

"I order this CD in March of 2008 and the track errors some reviewers have mentioned are corrected. Excellent music from a marvellous band!"
An overlooked favorite back in print!

"Way before feminism and environmentalism were movements, the conga rhythms and harmonies of The Joy of Cooking (two women, three men), led by the bluesy voice of Terry Garthwaite, were singing about living "Closer to the Ground": "Men up there, walking on the moon, you've better get yourself back in tune. You're gonna lose yourself in the upper air." I first read about them in the New Yorker and bought all three of their albums.
I've held onto my LPs, and when I set up my turntable, these are first on the my lineup to hear!
It's GREAT that they have been reissued. Now my son in Germany and his girlfriend can catch this part of the late 1960s/early 1970s.
P.S. The Joy of Cooking name, of course, is after the great American classic cookbook by Irma and Marion Rombauer of my home town of St. Louis, MO: home cooking, forerunners of the organic movement, German cookies, convenience dishes, and practical outstate how-tos like how to skin a squirrel, all adding up to cooking with Joy and living closer to the ground."
