"In case you don't know who Juan Torres is, he is a Mexican organist who gained popularity with his recordings in the late 1960's and 70's. Although mainly popular in Mexico, his fanbase reached the U.S. and many parts of Europe (as so happens with many underrated artists)
On "Ranchero: Coleccion De Oro" Juan plays the Hammond X-66 organ with a mariachi accompaniment, his brilliant organ playing shines on his renditions of "La Bamba", Alma Llanera, La Bikina, and Dos Arbolitos, just to name a few. My introduction to Juan's work was on vinyl, but to hear it on CD is absolutely amazing. I can only hope that Musart keeps releasing more of Juan Torres' work.
If you like Mariachi music or want to play something fun at your Cinco De Mayo party, do yourself a favor and pick this up.
