Amazon.comFace it, Goldilocks wasn't the most colorful character to begin with--a little porridge and a cozy bed were all it took to keep her quiet. But now that she's gotten the Judy and David treatment as part of the Canadian duo's Once upon a Time series, she's perked up considerably. Goldirocks transforms Little Miss Particular into a guitar goddess--she's plugged in, she's pumping out powerhouse riffs, and she's pissed off. As punishment for too much noisy playing, her mom has threatened to temporarily confiscate her guitar. Goldirocks, sufficiently steamed, runs away. She's deep in the creepy forest and feeling forlorn--with hunger, fatigue, and darkness setting in--when a hooting, high-strung owl points her in the direction of a homey-looking log cabin. There, the lost little diva launches into the familiar fussing over whose supper, chair, and bed suit her best. Goldirocks is snoozing away when the bumbling bear family, keepers of the cabin, barge in and discover her in Baby Bear's bed. She looks awfully nice, they decide, but because the owl tips them off that she's run away from home, they wake her with a scare to make certain she'll come to her senses, snap out of her snit over the guitar, and make haste heading home. Judy and David pile on their signature silly jokes and play up this wacky adaptation's dunderheaded characters to perfection. They also provide sing-along-with-me songs that span the musical spectrum--in addition to Goldi's rock, country, calypso, and even a little klezmer spice things up. Kids 3 to 10 who aren't afraid of getting saturated by the sillies will flock for repeat listenings of this twisted rendition of the timeless tale. They'll also appreciate the enhanced CD features--printable coloring book pages, a jigsaw puzzle, and a tour through the song lyrics add to the fun. --Tammy La Gorce
