Synopsis

Album Description
The year was 1986. The singer was only twenty-two, but since childhood she had been captivated by the worlds of wonder and imagination that she discovered in fantasy and science fiction. In later years, she would become a John W. Campbell award-winning writer of science fiction stories and novels, but for now she poured all her imagination and creativity into crafting songs that combined haunting beauty with a sweeping narrative style. The result was Divine Intervention, an album that shattered the boundaries of science fiction and music with delicate orchestral and pulse-pounding rock settings of Julia Ecklar's song-stories. We are delighted to unveil this long-awaited CD edition of Divine Intervention, featuring the original album tracks -- polished and re-mastered for CD -- plus fourteen minutes of previously unavailable and new productions by the Divine Intervention musical team.

CD Reviews

Simply Divine Music!
Clark S. Lindsey | Rockville, MD USA | 04/21/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I once heard Duke Ellington say something to the effect that he did not make jazz, he just made music. Similarly, Julia Ecklar is categorized as a "filker" but the world outside the sci-fi conventions should know that she simply makes wonderful music. With her magnificent and deeply expressive voice she brings alive the vivid imagery in her songs. This album showcases that voice and her song writing skills. Combined with talented producer Michael Moricz, who also contributed some beautiful instrumental works, and with some fine backup musicians, Julia Ecklar created not just a great filk album but an album of spectacular music. It's wonderful to find this album finally reissued as a CD and packaged with excellent artwork and a thick booklet containing extensive commentary and lyrics."

"Wonderful music, marvellous voice, splendid lyrics -- all in all, a terrific album, both a grand introduction for anyone not familiar with filk music and an equally grand listen for those acquainted with it. The instrumentation appeals to more mainstream listeners, but the quality here is anything but ordinary. If nothing else, certainly take a listen -- this is amazing stuff!"

"I owned this when it first came out on cassette but (like all my cassettes) I seldom listen to it anymore. So I was really pleased to get a CD copy and pop it in the player. I remembered liking it but had forgotten just how MUCH I like it. The production by Michael Moricz is stunning, the opening chords of "Overture" draw you in immediately and take you flying on a journey through a wonderful world of passionate, well crafted songs, delivered skillfully by Ecklar's powerful and expressive voice. There are really only 2 songs on this album that I tend to skip. However, songs like the evocative and beautiful "Crane Dance" or the rousing "Temper of Revenge" more than make up for any weaknesses in this otherwise wonderful album.Highly recommended to any fans of SF and Fantasy literature (whether or not they already know of "filk")"
