(5 out of 5 stars)

"We (my partner and I) discovered Julie Crochetiere (A member of Sugar Jones) while dining at 'Del Canale' (Nouveau Italian cuisine) restaurant here in Little Burgundy (Montreal). Patricia Vetter ('Del Canale' Owner) happened to be playing the CD when we sat down to eat, and I was immediately blown away. Patricia happens to be the wife of Tony Albino (Julie's Producer). Not only did I have the privilege of discovering this album, We also met Julie's parents and family at 'Del Canale' last weekend. The family are really sweet and I'm even more anxious to meet Julie in person at the 'launching' of the CD (here in town).

'A Better Place' is smooth, jazzy and exactly what you want to hear when you're sitting down to a quiet dinner with family or friends. I particulary like tracks 5,8,9,10,11, although the album is just perfect as a whole. Because I have a pre-release version of the album (in a digipack with complete tracklisting, artwork & credits), I'm not sure if all will be exactly the same when the officially released CD hits the stores. My CD is housed in a matte digipack with matte booklet and beautiful artwork throughout the packaging. The CD is pale cyan in color with darker cyan floral graphics and white text. It's very pretty and perfectly accents Julie's turquoise gown. Inside the front flap of the digipack, you'll find the booklet.

Julie's voice reminds me very much of 'Sia Furler' and Sophie Barker (vocalists from 'Zero 7'). Smooth & extremely expressive & moving, Julie's voice can stop a conversation in an instant. That's how I feel when I listen to her rendition of Elton John's "Someone Saved my Life Tonight" and Paul Simons' "Slip Sliding Away". I wish Julie all the best in her career and will certainly purchase some music from Sugar Jones.
