"Like her previous collection, "Dream Loud", this is a collection Julie Gold songs written over some twenty years.I (luckily) had the opportunity to hear Ms. Gold sing many of these songs in a rather intimate setting in a New York cabaret in December of 1998. Her performance live, and in these recordings are both musical and have a personal interpretation. Melodiaclly and textually, these songs are interesting and diverse. While there are a number of songs dealing with the subject of "Love", Ms. Gold also has a few humorous moments, and other rather poigniant observations of life. I believe her best songs hint at telling a story (ballads) or are the songs with a message. I think the song "The Journey" is simply incredible and "Southbound Train" is extremely appealing.Ms. Gold gives a personal recollection or anecdote with each of the compositions on this disc. While Ms. Gold is not the best singer I have ever heard...it is the songs she writes which contain the strength of this collection. If you are not familiar with her name, you surely know at least one of her songs, the grammy winning "From a Distance" which is on her earlier collection. If you know this song, and love it as so many do, you will surely appreciate some of the selections contained in this disc."
Her songs are worth their weight in Gold

"Julie comes up with songs from the heart, and her love flows through everything she pens, such as ''Every Living Thing.'' For her poetry, I adore ''Southbound Train.'' But my favorite of them all is ''The Journey,'' a song she originally wrote for Bette Midler; even though the Divine M didn't wind up doing it, it's still such an inspiring and beautiful song about life (''What a journey this has been and the end is not in sight''). By the way, I once saw Julie in concert and she raved about a sensational singer who has recorded ''The Journey'': Tom Andersen. He even named his CD after it, and if you love Julie's songs, you gotta get it. Anyway, Julie might not have the most Gold-en throat, but she sings ''The Journey'' and everything else here with such feeling."

"julie gold is an amazing songwriter. you can just imagine a carol king, bette midler, barbara striesand or linda ronstadt gettin a hold of these and making them number 1 on the charts. while juli gold"s voice is lovely her songwriting is much stronger. she is special. i would buy all of her work if i could find it."

"You won't buy this CD to hear someone with a voice quality like Barbra Streisand, but there is a real appeal to this disc. Julie Gold is a great songwriter. As part of the Four Bitchin' Babes, she added some great tunes including "Try Love" which in a perfect world would be a pop standard and is the title tune to this CD. "Teach Us" is a beautiful God-love song, one for the New Pop Hymnal. "The Ride" is a beautiful tune about enjoying the ride of life, short as it may be. Gold's piano is passionate. She gets a little wacky as with the abbreviated but clever "Temporary Song." If you are as interested in those who write the songs as those whose records get on the airwaves, this is a CD to enjoy. Gold is more Carole Bayer Sager than Carole King, but she has a beautifully strong muse and should not be missed!"
