Synopsis

Album Description
Digitally remastered reissue of the sultry singer's 1956 album. Yes, Julie London is the girl who single handededly launched the Torch Singer genre....and opened the door for every imperfect but sexy vocalist since. The most remarkable thing about Julie London is remarkable indeed: that she used her erotic persona not so much to interpret songs as to change the nature of them to become something other than when sung by anyone else. She used her breathy, sexy, sultry voice not to sing a version of a song that could compete with someone else's on a scale of good to better to best, but to change it's meaning. This, her second album, carries on from where her first left off...soft eroticism and single entendre...songs of yearning and loneliness in Julie's own bedroom whisper...just try to resist! One of the most erotic albums of all time! Features extensive liner notes and pics of the sexy singer herself! Squad 51 never had a chance! Rev-Ola. 2007.

CD Reviews

SUPERB JULIE!
City Of Evanston | EVANSTON, IL United States | 03/25/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"LONELY GIRL was released as a followup to her wildly successful
JULIE IS HER NAME. Backed only by Al Viola on the guitar, Julie
is simply wonderful as she sings the title song and other songs
of loneliness. A perfect late at night album. I am greatful
that this one finally got a legitimate CD release. But keep the
12 LP too. A 12" LONELY GIRL picture is 3 times the CD cover.
Thank you, Julie for all the joy you have given a lot of us."
Great well known Classic Jazz Artist of the 50's.

"Julie is a Gem,

She and a few other female jazz artists captured the eyes and ears of those in the 40's and 50's.

She would do it now if she were still with us.

She is what I would title as a unforgettable Jazz Singer and will forever remain that way for many generations of Jazz Lovers......"
