CD Reviews

Mr. Smoothie at his smoothest

(5 out of 5 stars)

"From 1995, this is a really gorgeous CD, a velvety musical treat from start to finish. 5 of the 10 songs are written by the team of Roberto Levi and Rafael Ferro, and are beautiful, romantic baladas, with "Baila Morena" a lovely melody with a Carribean taste to it. Other good rythmic tracks are "Derroche", by Manuel Giménez, and my favorite, "Agua Dulce, Agua Salá", by Estéfano, Donato, and Batt."Con el pasar de los años~he aprendido en la vida~que se vive intensamente~porque si no se termina"There is also a medley of rumbas that are mighty fine, and a sad song of lost love "Sin Excusas ni Rodeos" which was written by Julio, along with Estéfano, Donato, and Arcusa...the CD finishes with the wonderful Alvarez/Beigbeder "Vuela Alto". Needless to say, the arrangements are lush and the musicianship top notch. The Spanish guitar of Toledo deserves a mention in "La Luna me Engaño".This CD is like one of those frothy, iced cappuccino drinks I indulge in once in a while...maybe a little sweet, but oh so yummy to the last drop."
Casually elegant music.

"I tend to listen to more classical music and opera than pop. Yet, there is something about Julio's music that really appeals to me. In a phrase, I think it is casually elegant music, and this album is a strong example. The title track has a lonely, enchanting sound to it. If you like Julio, I'm sure you'll love this album. If you have had an interest in buying one of his albums, this is probably a good start--although the double CD " Mi Vida" might be best for a newcomer. In any case, enjoy!"
One of his best

"Well, to me this is one of Julio's best cd's. I own it in Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. Baila Morena has a great cumbia beat, and it is great to dance to. The rhythm runs through your body making you want to explode if you don't get up and dance."
