CD Reviews

Freshman Album Success

"Who says rappers from the South cant rhyme. This is one artists that knows how to ride a beat. With Jay-Z recently announcing his retirement on BET earlier this month and the West Coast inability to drop a hit and the Midwest being set back a few years with the release of Chingy's 17 song waist of time and money ...the rap game is wide open for a take over. Enter "The Dirty South." With names like Lil Jon and the Eastside Boys, David Banner, Lil Flip, T.I., The Young Bloodz, Killer Mike, and Bone Crusher it seems like the future of rap is now deeply set in the South and now Kamikaze adds his name to the list. The first track on the album is the called "City Life (Intro). Nothing much to say; its an intro. The beat is pretty nice though. Next up the title track "1 Life 2 Die" here is the first of many tracks where Kamikaze shows his lyricism. He explains a lot about where here comes from and who he is. The following track "Put Your Sets Up" is an up beat head-banger (if you can get past the very low quality sound) but don't worry its is the only thing that keeps the album from being perfect. After that "Warz In The Streetz" hits you with more lyrics than you can handle. Kamikaze is spitting over a climatic track at about 200 miles per hour. Yes, this guy can rap fast. The next track is the albums first single "On The Grind". It's a very good change of pace and attitude for the album. The beat rides along and just makes you want to bob your head. K (Kamikaze) sounds very angry on this track and so does his guest Mack Boney. Some of you might know Mack Boney from the group P.$.C. on the Grand Hustle label along with T.I. Both artist come with it on this track. It's a certified classic. The follow up track "D.O.P.E. Scholarship" is a play on the well known H. O. P. E. Scholarship of Georgia. Basically he is saying that he could not get the H. O. P. E. Scholarship so he used other means to pay his way through college. The play on words in this track is awesome. "Ride With Me" follows. This is yet another change of pace. This track is for the ladies. K is on the track letting the ladies know how he can please them. "Still Balling" brings back the party vibe for the album. It features The Undercovaz and lable mate Dro. Hey, what more can I say it's another good track. After this good track comes another one "In The Hood" feature none other than the infamous T-Rock. These two together make the track blaze, and the beat only adds fire to the flames. Both come with some of the best lyrics I have heard since the late great Tupac. Next is "Where You At" just an interlude into the next song "What They Know Bout..." On this track K is just letting you know more about his town of Atlanta. He takes you deep into the streets and shows that he knows the ATL like the back of his hand. "At The Club" follows. This is a certifiable club anthem. Im sure if you play this in the club, every one will get to acting a damn fool. Again, Kamikaze comes with some lyrics he doesn't cheap out. Which is so easy to do on party tracks these days. "Streets Keep Callin" is yet another change of pace for the album. It just makes you want to crank up the volume and ride. K speaks on how hard it was for him to make his money legally while the streets called to him. The last song "Hollywood" is right where it's supposed to be it is the perfect track to end with. Here "K" speaks out to all the people who doubt him and lets them know that even if he makes it, he will still be the same old hood fiend as always. "Holla At Me (Outro)" is next. It's the outro track not much to say here. All and all the album could be better from the production side. But its not like its bad. Its just not perfect. Nobody should have the perfect first album, but Kamikaze comes really close. The album is well worth the money you spend. ..."
