"Paul O'Dette is one of my favorite lutenists, and he really does a marvelous job with Kapsberger's music. O'Dette switches between lute and chitarrone, which results in a subtle change of texture. The recorded sound quality is exquisite, and this music is full of pleasant surprises. I especially like the Toccata Arpegiatta, the Bergamasca, the Colascione, and the Canario. And try this: turn down the lights and play the piece Kapsberger. It will thoroughly move and de-frazzle you."

"Born in 1580, Kapsberger helped define a sound for the lute. You will hear some familiar medieval musical devices, not unlike Dowland, but there are some surprises in here too.Played with respect , this album has an authentic sound, in my my modern perception, anyway. Stands up to multiple listening."
