CD Reviews

Storytelling at it's best.

"Karen has that great approach to songwriting...be in the moment and let the listener in on that moment too. She creates such visuals with her writing that you may think the event happened to you and Karen wrote a soundtrack for it! A beatiful voice and great songwriting."
A wonderful debut release that I can listen to all day.

"I bought this album at Bumbershoot after listening to the artist open for Dar Williams. This is one of those albums that you never regret purchasing. Karen's voice is soft and soothing, her music gentle, so it's easy to let this one play on and on in the background. But the real magic is in her lyrics. The word-pictures her lyrics paint are as beautiful as any of the melodies on this disk. My favorite, by far, is "Buddha in my Frontseat," where she sings about a monk that she's given a ride to in Montana. She says, "He unwraps a chocolate bar, like you'd touch a lover's face." That line grabs me everytime and really embodies Karen's ability to capture a moment in her music.

I like to put this album on repeat and let it play for hours. That's the highest praise I can give anything."
A "must-have" for any singer songwriter collection

"I've been following Karen's music since her early days at The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI. I've always thought her smart, evocative writing and gutsy vocal style deserved a wider audience. Apartment 12, her debut release on Shanachie Records, proves what I've believed for years -- Karen Pernick's a "girl singer-songwriter" more people deserve to hear!!"
