"Hearing the great voice of Karine Polwart on Battlefield Band's album " Happy Days", I just had to get my hands on her debut solo release. I had to order it from the UK, which was not the economy way to get it, but was it ever worth it!!! This cd has hardly left my car cd player in the past few months. There is a deep melancholic edge to the album. Karine Polwart shows a wide variety in the delivery and style of the songs on this cd. The central theme of the album stresses the need to be self reliant,to look beneath the surface. This is an introspective work and there is not a weak song on the cd. Buy this album !!!!"
This is the way it should be!!

"IF new talent could get past the big record labels and be given a chance you might hear innovative and talented recordings like this one once in a while. Karine is an artist and an amazing talent! Though she is weird as all get out and scared of butterflies, you will fall in love with this music and it will be your favorite album! We heard this Scottish lass at the Warwick Arts Centre recently and it was the highlight of our trip to Britain."
Songs of hope and reality

"Polwart is a really fine singer, indeed, as her days with the Battlefield Band proved. she's just as fine a writer, offering songs that recognize life sometimes -- maybe often-- gives one hard knocks, but there is hope to be found, and courage to be drawn from one's deepest resources. I was first introduced to Polwart's work by Cathie Ryan, who herself has that hope and resilience thing going in her recent work as well. Polwart paints her world with in different hues, but if you like Ryan you should check out Polwart, and vice versa."
