Propulsive reflection

"As a point of reference, Kartet's latest (and the only one of their cds I have heard), is somewhat like Tim Berne's work, but with more condensed composition (the typical piece runs 3 to 5 min), and somewhat like Greg Osby's "Inner Circle," but with more compositional range (and I love both Berne and Osby). All four instruments make equal contributions to the compositions, for a wonderful combination of intriguing lines from Orti, Delbecq, and Dupont, and propulsive (but equally inventive) drumming from Sardjoe. The cd includes a reworking of Monk's Misterioso that you might not immediately recognize as such unless you're listening closely to the piano bass line. I wish more Kartet was more readily (and more affordably) available..."

"This is jazz at its best. These musical compositions are very modern, abstract, free and coherent at the same time. Although each musician seems to be playing to a separate score, everything fits beautifully together. Special attention should be payed, as usual, to Benoit Delbecq on piano and prepared piano... Fans will not be disappointed. Highly recommended!"
